The Inaba Family

The Inaba family has been farming in the Yakima valley since 1907. Our grandfather, Shukichi Inaba could not become a citizen or own land. They were able to survive by leasing land on the Yakama Reservation. Over a hundred years later, the family has sold the farm to the Yakama Nation to repay them for their kindness.

Shigeko’s Flower is for my Grandmother. The flower is made of our family’s Heart Mountain ID sheet. Purple was always her favorite color. It seemed fitting to be growing out of a rusty can.

9 Flowers of Heart Mountain. One paper flower for each Inaba in camp.
